Antique map titled 'La Livonie (..)'. Decorative map of Livonia. Livonia or in earlier records Livland, is a historical region on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea. It is named after the Livonians, who lived on the shores of present-day Latvia. This well executed engraving was published in 1729 and 1727 by Pieter Van Der Aa, in Leiden in "Les Voyages tres-curieux et tres-renommez faits en Moscovie, Tartarie et Perse".
Pieter van der Aa (Leiden, 1659 – Leiden, August 1733) was a Dutch publisher best known for preparing maps and atlases, though he also printed pirated editions of foreign bestsellers and illustrated volumes.
