Antique print titled 'Capture of L'immortalité'. A very fine hand-colored aquatint by T. Sutherland based on an oil painting by T. Whitcombe showing the capture of the French frigate L'Immortalité by HMS Fisgard on October 20th 1798. Immortalité was a Romaine class frigate in the French Navy that took part in the Expedition d'Irlande and was captured shortly after the Battle of Tory Island by HMS Fisgard. She was re-commissioned in the Royal Navy as HMS Immortalité and had an active career on the Home Station before being broken up in July 1806. This print was published in 'The Naval Achievements of Great Britain from the year 1793 to 1817' by L. Harrison for James Jenkins in 1816, London. This work contained 54 engraved hand-coloured aquatints by T. Sutherland, J. Jeakes and Bailey.
