Antique map titled 'Regnum Siciliae'. Original old map of Sicily, Malta and a bit of Naples and Sardinia. With original hand coloring. Large decorative cartouche with 2 coats of arms and a large decorative military scale. This fine map illustrates Sicily's strategic position in the Mediterranean. It extends from the southeast coastline of Sardinia to Calabria, and south to show the Tunisian coastline. The Aeolian Islands and Malta are well detailed, and the volcanoes of Stromboli and Aetna are graphically noted as active. The title cartouche is set within clouds with putti displaying the arms of Italy and Sicily. Published by N. Visscher, circa 1680.
