Antique botany print titled 'Licuala gracilis'. Original old print of a species of fan palm. This print originates from volume 2 of 'Rumphia, sive, Commentationes botanicæ imprimis de plantis Indiæ Orientalis (..)'. Published by C.L. Blume, 1836.
Karl Ludwig Blume (1796-1862) was a German botanist who spent most of his working life in the Netherlands, where he was director of the Rijksherbarium. He trained initially as a doctor, and his inquiries into native medicines led him to Java in 1817, where he began to study botany. He became director of the Buitenzorg Botanic Garden before returning to Europe.
Condition: Good. General age-related toning, minor wear and soiling. Two pieces of tape on verso. Blank verso. Please study image carefully.
