Antique bird print titled 'Gatt Cancroma'. Large lithograph of the boat-billed heron, an atypical member of the heron family, and was formerly placed in a monotypic family, the Cochlearidae. It lives in mangrove swamps from Mexico south to Peru and Brazil. It is a nocturnal bird, and breeds semicolonially in mangrove trees, laying two to four bluish-white eggs in a twig nest.

This print originates from 'Naturalist Atlas' by Georg August Goldfuss. This extra large-size collection of lithographs with gorgeous recent coloring depicting animals, birds, reptiles, fish, etc. published in Duesseldorf, at Arnz from 1824-1842 This work was issued over this long period of time in series of twenty prints each per annum. There are no officially bound copies and they were issued uncolored.

Condition: Good. Later hand coloring, general age-related toning. Minor wear and small defects, blank verso. Please study image carefully.
